Dental Hygiene

Proper dental hygiene is a key part of preventive dentistry, helping your teeth stay healthy and beautiful.

What is dental hygiene?

Dental hygiene is professional teeth cleaning performed by a dental hygienist.

During this procedure, the dental hygienist evaluates the patient’s oral hygiene status, removes plaque and tartar, teaches the correct technique for home dental care, and introduces the patient to suitable, high-quality tools for proper daily tooth cleaning.

This combination of procedures can help prevent a wide range of complications, including tooth decay, gum inflammation, and periodontitis. Proper home care based on information and instruction from a dental hygienist is the only reliable way to maintain functional teeth throughout life.

How does dental hygiene treatment work?

First, the dental hygienist needs to understand the patient’s oral hygiene habits and, based on this information, provide recommendations for proper home dental care.

The main goal of dental hygiene is to help the patient find a tooth-cleaning method that is effective and easy to manage and maintain at home.

Another equally important task is to professionally clean the patient’s teeth, remove tartar, and eliminate other deposits from the tooth surface. The specific procedure depends on the condition of the patient’s teeth and periodontal tissues.

How long does the treatment take?

The duration of dental hygiene treatment is not fixed in advance. It is always individual and depends on the condition of the patient’s gums and periodontium. For clients who undergo dental hygiene regularly, the procedure usually takes at least 30 minutes. For patients who are less consistent with oral hygiene, or whose teeth are affected by inflammatory disease, treatment may require several hour-long sessions.

Is dental hygiene painful?

Sensitivity during dental procedures is always individual. With regular visits and healthy teeth and gums, dental hygiene can be a comfortable experience and time well invested in the patient’s health and overall condition. If the teeth and gums are sensitive or in poor condition, the treatment may be less comfortable.

How often should dental hygiene be done?

We primarily recommend regularity to our clients. In general, the time interval between procedures is assessed and recommended by the dental hygienist based on the client’s individual needs, the condition of their teeth, and their ability to care properly for their teeth and gums at home. It is advisable to visit a dental hygienist at least once a year, and ideally once every six months.
